Tip of the spear at Team CRUM Style. …Lets admit it, it’s awkward to write your own bio without it seeming ego filled, so let’s just skip right to the résumé written in third person. But first a quick dad joke: Why do deck builders love telling jokes? The punchline is in this blog somewhere and I hope you find it. You’ll win nothing by finding it, but you have embarked on an adventurous story.
Primary responsibility is to oversee the overall strategic direction and success of the company, ensuring that its mission and vision are effectively executed. Moreover this includes managing the day-to-day operations, financial performance, and long-term growth initiatives. Douglas is responsible for maintaining strong relationships with clients, partners, and industry stakeholders while driving innovation in deck-building practices and sustainable solutions. Additionally, Douglas ensures that the company remains compliant with industry and jurisdictional regulations, upholds its reputation for quality craftsmanship, and fosters a positive, collaborative company culture. Namely, leading Team CRUM Style by example, Douglas must align all departments towards achieving the business objectives and customer satisfaction.
Before assembling Team CRUM Style like Nick Fury, the director of S.H.I.E.L.D., did the avengers Douglas start is working career with a summer job at a large amusement park as a ride operator. Then a few high school jobs later ultimately found himself enlisted in the United States Navy, June of 2001. 82 days later the Twin Towers fell… Since CRUM Style operates in the marketplace and not the battlefield we can speed this up to say afterwords Douglas found him attracted to the world of sales like a mosquito to a citronella candle. The flex of fast money and smooth talking, nah. He sold Pontiac vehicles before moving to Dodges a few months later. Far from fancy.
It was at the Dodge dealership where he had gotten a great mentor in sales that rapidly accelerated his skills on account of learning to understand customer needs, knowing how to nail the punchline, and effective communication. As evidenced by his quick career progression throughout his roles in the following years selling everything from those cars to insurance and, in the end, gym memberships. Team CRUM Style went from being something for someone else to do, to Douglas’ dream for the building and no longer building someone else’s dreams.
Firstly, trustworthiness and integrity demonstrated through the mindset of “always do the right thing.” Likewise, these traits build strong client relationships. There’s nothing worse than being uneasy when asking questions about a costly project. Attention to detail is a close second, focusing on the entire process, not just the outcome. Team CRUM Style reflects this commitment, embedding it company culture. Moreover, effective communication completes the top three. For instance, clients’ concerns are often addressed before they even arise.
With over 4,168 failures, each experience has contributed to expertise. For example, there was a deck project with 26 pier footings, 20 of which conflicted with new installations. Additionally, a mini skid steer sank two and a half feet into muddy clay, requiring a tow truck in a backyard for rescue. Not to mention, two active sewer lines were found just 18-24″ underground, unmarked by Miss Digg. Oh, by the way, these were all the same project. Experiences like these are how the accumulated knowledge and success continue to grow.
Douglas is a talker. In particular if you talk about decks, business, or finances. In fact, most topics will get the song bird to sing. The one hour onsite consultation on your deck is 10 minutes work and 40 mins chit chat. To clarify it is a 50 minute hour. Beyond Team CRUMStyle it’s really just Faith, Family, and Country. Church on Sunday, keep up with the kids and distant family, and create community. Be that as it may focus is pretty narrow as the focus is on helping as many people as possible through continuous, deliberate effort. To put it differently, right now that purpose is to serve in this role providing dream outdoor spaces to the client and opportunities in those aligned in the Team CRUM Style ecosystem.
“It’s going to be much harder than you could ever imagine. All of it. Keep going.”
Promise when I get to 10k subscribers on the YouTube channel that doesn’t exist yet I am going to do a more candid blog about myself. *yikes*
